Patricia Temitope Alabi, popularly known as Tope Alabi, was born on October 27, 1970, as the only daughter of Pa Joseph Akinyele and Madam Agnes Kehinde. She hails from Yewa, Imeko, in Ogun State, and was raised in a disciplined environment under the watchful eye of her mother. From a young age, Tope was instilled with strong values that shaped her into the person she is today.

Tope received her early education at Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, where she obtained her West Africa School Certificate in 1986. She later pursued higher education at the Polytechnic Ibadan, studying Mass Communication and graduating in 1990. Initially, Tope aspired to become a star actress, which led her to join a theatre group during her secondary school years.

In 1983, Tope joined the Jesters International group, where she acted alongside notable figures like Papilolo and Aderupoko. Her career also included a stint with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Ibadan between 1990 and 1991, followed by work with Centre-spread Advertising Limited in Lagos from 1991 to 1992. In 1994, she returned to acting and joined the Alade Aromire Theatre group, where she discovered her talent for singing and creating soundtracks for movies, eventually becoming a pioneering figure in the Yoruba home video industry.

Tope Alabi's breakthrough came in 2000 with the release of her debut album, Oore ti O Common, which catapulted her to fame and earned her the nicknames "Oore ti o Common" and "Agbo Jesu." Before this, she had released two albums, Ikoko Dudu and Baba Iwo la k’epe. Over the years, Tope has released eleven albums, including her latest, The Spirit of Light (2019), a collaborative project with songwriter and photographer TY Bello. Tope is married to Soji Alabi, her manager and producer, and they are blessed with children. Her hobbies include watching movies, table tennis, and going on vacations.
